Have you ever wondered how you wound up where you are right now? That can be a good thing, but it can also be a not so good thing.
All of us are “endowed by our Creator” with certain gifts—maybe you are musical and can sing and play an instrument, or both. Maybe you are good with your hands and love fixing things and putting them back together. Others have a technical gift, much needed in today’s world, and I certainly appreciate them more than ever. Others can dream and create big visions for their lives, for their companies and influence many others along the way. Then, there are those who are best at executing plans, paying attention to all the details and the “what if’s”. We need everyone’s gifts for things to run smoothly.
When Hiring
When hiring employees, you want to hire those with the gifts you need in that role. Have you or anyone you know been “stuck” in a position where you just didn’t feel you clicked? People who are operating at the highest level of their gifts know it—it comes easy to them, and it flows. Some call it being “in the flow”. You know what I mean, you’ve experienced that feeling.
If you aren’t there right now, take a bit of time, separate from the day to day demands, go out in nature or wherever you experience that quiet and peacefulness. What are your gifts? Are you using them to the best of your ability, or have they taken a side position?
Being in the Flow
Now, we aren’t always in the “flow” every minute of every day—we all have frustrations and other distractions. But, as much as possible, you need to be operating at the highest level of your gifts. The world will be a better place and you will have more peace and success when you do.
I am “in the flow” when I am helping business owners create a plan for their eventual succession or exit. And this needs to start from the beginning of their work life, because, well, “life happens”. It’s much harder to plan from a place of anxiety and fear. We can’t prepare for every single eventuality that comes down the pike but having clearly defined goals and plans sure helps along the way.
You owe it to yourself to do a self-assessment—find your gifts and how you can best use them to serve and bless others. We’ll all be glad you did!
